1. Overview
Proper preparation helps ensure a safe and comfortable surgical experience. Please read these instructions carefully before your appointment. Contact our office if you have any questions.
2. Medical Information
Medications:
Continue taking prescribed medications unless your dentist or physician instructs otherwise.
Bring a list of all medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, to your appointment.
Blood Thinners:
If you take blood thinners (e.g., Aspirin, Plavix, Eliquis, Xarelto, Warfarin), do not stop them without written advice from your prescribing physician.
Bisphosphonates / Osteoporosis Drugs:
Inform us if you are taking or have ever taken Alendronate, Fosamax, Actonel, Reclast, or similar medications. These can affect bone healing.
Medical Conditions:
Report any changes in your health such as fever, cough, chest pain, or recent illness.
3. Eating and Drinking
Local Anesthesia Only:
You may eat a light meal up to 2 hours before surgery.
IV or Oral Sedation:
Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for 8 hours before your appointment unless directed otherwise.
Take essential medications with a small sip of water if instructed.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours prior to your procedure.
4. Transportation and Escort
Sedation Patients:
You must have a responsible adult escort (18+) to drive you to and from the office.
Public transportation, taxis, or ride-share services are not acceptable unless you are accompanied by your escort.
Your escort must stay in the office during the procedure.
No Sedation:
You may drive yourself, unless otherwise instructed.
5. Clothing and Personal Items
Wear loose, comfortable clothing with short sleeves for blood pressure or IV monitoring.
Avoid nail polish, lipstick, and facial makeup.
Leave jewelry and valuables at home.
Remove contact lenses if undergoing sedation.
6. Smoking, Vaping, and Alcohol
Do not smoke, vape, or use alcohol for at least 24 hours before surgery.
These can interfere with anesthesia and slow healing.
7. Illness or Scheduling Changes
Notify the office as soon as possible if you develop a cold, flu, or any infection before your appointment.
If you must reschedule, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice.
8. For Diabetic Patients
Schedule your appointment early in the day if possible.
Eat a light meal and take insulin or oral medication as advised by your physician.
Bring your glucometer and insulin if required.
9. For Sedation Patients: Day of Surgery
Arrive 15–20 minutes before your scheduled time.
Bring a valid photo ID and any required forms.
You must have an escort present at discharge.
Plan to rest at home for the remainder of the day. Avoid making important decisions or operating machinery for 24 hours.
10. Questions or Concerns
If you have any uncertainty about your medications, fasting, or preparation, contact the office before the day of surgery.
